To the World of Warcraft player who chooses the Hunter class, a big part of the game revolves around your pet. This is essential for the Hunter who often embarks on a solo journey.
Of course a pet is far more than just to keep you from getting lonely. A pet's primary purpose is to aid your Hunter in battle and give him the upper hand when engaged in combat with a monster.
With all the different types of pets available, it will take some experimenting to decide which pet is best for you. Each type of pet has its strength as well as weakness, so there is no best overall pet. It just comes down to your personal preference. In this article I will explain the ups and downs of each pet. This will help you decide which pet is best suited for your style.
Before deciding on a companion, you have to be able to tame your pet first. This is accomplished by completing a taming quest followed by completing the quest. Once this is done, you will be able to train a pet.
Once you have a pet, it's important that you treat it as you would treat a real life pet. That means FEEDING IT! Your pet's loyalty level will depend on how often you feed it. Keep your pet happy and it will return the favor by dealing over 100% damage. Keeping it content and it will do damage at 100%. Be a lousy pet owner, and your pet will show its unhappiness by dealing less than 100% damage.
Now comes the time to make your pet selection. Here are the ins and outs of each pet. Pets like cats, ravagers, and hyenas have a dash ability which can up their speed by a certain percentage.
If you prefer stealth and a pet that can use this ability to sneak up on enemies for a nice bonus damage, then you can't go wrong with a cat.
Pets of flight like the bat and owl are good for close range damage. Their screech ability allows them to deal damage while lowering the attack power of nearby enemies.
High damage pets like the cat and ravager unfortunately suffer from low health levels. If you prefer a pet with naturally high health, then opt for the bear or gorilla, though these pets don't deal as high amount of damage, so they are essentially the opposite to the cat and ravager.
Each pet has an array of attributes that would take an entire guide to go into detail. This article should be enough for the Warcraft newbie entering his first journey as the Hunter.
