It's unusual, in most cases gaming companies like Nintendo and Sony allow companies to make 3rd party controllers. For reasons behind their wireless technology, Microsoft does not. For a modded controller company like ourselves at moddedcontrollers.com, it isn't a big deal, but for your regular consumer, it's unfortunate that their options are limited to one, buying their controllers squarely from Microsoft.
There could be a number of reasons for this. Perhaps they don't want anyone with rapid fire buttons for a balanced online experience. Whatever the reason, third party controllers simply aren't allowed.
That's the real reason why modded controllers are thriving on the 360. Everyone that's into shooters desires them. They can give you a number of gameplay enhancing functions. Like rapid fire that increases your firing rate, a jitter mod that turns burst weapons into semi-automatics, and so on. Modded controllers have a range of features. One of our favorite classic mods is our simple stealth mod. A modded controller that can become normal at the turn of of internal switch. It doesn't look any different then a brand new Microsoft controller. It's pretty enjoyable to leave your opponent breathless.
You can grab mods that just changes the way the controller looks. There are great mods to show off to friends. Have a cool mod with custom built LEDs behind the face buttons to light up your room while gaming at night. It's not difficult to find long lasting value in controller mods. Great for show and great for gaming.
XCM controller shells are great because they aren't just mods with game functions, but they also include a new d-pad that's bigger. Definitely makes the player more accurate which is fairly useful regardless of the game.
Don't feel bad about getting a modded controller, give them another shot. You'll be surprised with how fun they are to use and how they really do improve your overall gaming experience
