Facebook is probably the biggest of all gaming sites globally. Even though there are no public stats available, it is not that difficult making a few educated guesses. There are some figures out there that can help to paint a fairly realistic picture. Firstly there are around 500 million users on Facebook. Secondly the most popular apps on there are games and around three quarters of users play at least one game on a regular basis.
The main focus has been and will always be on social networking for Facebook. There are however many people out there who don't really actively get involved with other people, but focus more on the apps on the site. Many people visit for example just to play the respective games out there. Although there is lots of fun to be had, there is a security and privacy concern. With many of these apps they gain a lot of access to your information on your profile, even without being your official friends. In most instances the respectable companies will not misuse this, but there are some unsavory characters out there.

This is an unspoken fact. Most people attribute Facebook's success to its networking features. But the online gaming capabilities that Facebook offers can't be matched by any other gaming portal.
There is no arguing the popularity of online games and they are there to be enjoyed. It is great to take a few minutes out of a day to play some games for relaxation. You need to however be conscious of some of the less reputable apps out there. You don't want your information falling into the wrong hands. The easiest way to spot them is if you are not getting what they are advertising the app to be.
