If you are a ps3 video game enthusiast like myself, you spend a lot of time gaming. When I am on a roll while playing a game, I find it a hassle sometimes switching back and forth from my keyboard to the controller. Luckily, Sony made a sweet little device that combines them both into one nice compact unit.
And this great problem solver is the PlayStation 3 Wireless Keypad:
When you buy this, it won't collect dust because you will be using it all of the time. There are very few accessories that you need to enjoy your ps3, and I think this is probably the most useful and enjoyable one of them all.
Internet browsing, e-mailing your friends, and instant messaging other gamers while gaming is loads of fun. If you do all of these activities, I highly suggest getting this keypad. By integrating all of these features into a sleek and elegant one-piece design, you can further enhance your online interactivity for less than $45.
Let's see what the ps3 wireless keypad has to offer a gamer:
* Adding the wireless keypad turns your regular wireless controller into an easy to hold, multifunctional device.
* Attaches to any DualShock 3 or Six-Axis wireless controller
* QWERTY keyboard designed for thumb only typing
* Touch-pad mouse-pad
* Dedicated short-cut keys provide time-saving instant access to Message Box and other online communication applications on the PSN.
When you use the keypad in keyboard mode, you get a QWERTY keyboard with well-separated round little keys. The letters, numeric, and punctuation keys are where you expect them to be but other special keys found on a keyboard are not in their usual places and the PgUp, PgDn, End, Home, and the function keys are not present. Special characters can be entered with the Blue and Orange modifier keys.
The wireless keypad is excellent for saving time typing messages during the middle of game play but Sony could have done a better job designing the device. Since a lot of gamers play in a dimly lit room, Sony could have given the keypad backlit keys and a lot less functions. For some new users of the keypad, it is a bit of a learning curve and it could have been designed with more simplicity in mind.
If it wasn't for the absence of lighted keys on the keypad, there would be more happy customers with this product. Depending on your preference, the positioning of the keypad is not bad and it can be easily accessed. It has an on/off switch on the side of it, which is very nice, and the power status can be checked on-screen, which is also a bonus. There are also quick use buttons on the keypad that quickly sends you to your friends list, where you can begin typing, and it doesn't interfere with normal controller functions during game-play.
In conclusion, this is a very nice keypad that will work very well with your PS3. The only major flaw with this device is that it doesn't have backlit keys. Other than this, it is a great buy if you have games that require a lot of communication and you do a lot of chatting with friends and other gamers.
