EA has been releasing NHL games for consoles for over twenty years now and they do not disappoint this year. The newest version in the franchise has been released on both the PlayStation three and the Xbox three sixty. These basic tips are intended for those who are just starting and need held grasping the basics of NHL 11 strategy.
When first beginning the game there are quite a few different options to pick from and we will provide a basic overview of most of them here. The first choice that should pop out at you will be called "First Time?". Select this and the game will take you to the team customization menu where you will be able to enter some detailed information on the new team including town and franchise selections. Eventually you will be able to choose a roster, within salary cap of course. Also there will be several starter cards given, these are random and can include rare cards.
When setting the roster and assigning players to positions, pay attention to their chemistry. This statistic has an influence on several different factors but the most noticeable effect will be on passing success rates. When creating chemistry within the team pay attention to factors that should be the same, or similar, including original team, home town and leagues. Take care as well to put players in positions they like to play, for instance, do not put a center in say, a defensive position.
You can play the created team in tournament, season, or exhibition games by selecting the hockey ultimate team option. These can be played online against live opponents, or solo against the AI if you prefer. Whichever mode you choose grants you items like EA pucks and other collectible items like trophies. As you play more and more with the custom team, it will level up and ability parameters may be increased. The game seems to level up computer opponents accordingly so the difficulty will progress as you level. Before upgrading teammates it is important to remember to renew their contracts for a long time so that they stay at the current sixty rating pay instead of an eighty for instance.
My Collection is an option that will expand as you unlock new items during games. These can include jerseys, trophies and even staff members. This section is basically for visual aesthetics only and serves no functional purpose.
The Trading section is sort of an auction based system where players can search for specific items they would like to purchase. With EA pucks of course. Countless hours will be spent here acquiring contracts, cards, and all sorts of other items. Each item has a timer, of course and could have a buy now price. If you have won a bid on a card, it will be sent to your Watch List in the trading menu and you then can choose to either send or apply that card.
Tournaments for collectible cups like the illustrious Stanley Cup take place in the battle for the cup section. Team selection can be entered manually or there is also a random option. There will now be options to select from regarding the length of the cup series. There is knockout, which is a win or go home situation, best of three, five and seven, which are self explanatory. There are other things that can be modified here as well such as period length, penalty status and more.
If you ever need a break from the action, choose the "Be a GM" mode. This enables you to be a general manager for whichever team you choose and then manage things like their NHL 11 strategy. You can make them as aggressive or defensive as you wish. The general manager mode can last for up to twenty five seasons. This mode, like the others, has several different things that can be modified.
