Your first guess would probably not have been that video games are good for you, but guess what... they are. Many people think the closest thing to useful you will get from a game is that you will be able to relax and kill some time. There are however quite a few other benefits to go with it.
Video games are definitely developed to entertain people. They do so very successfully as well as millions of players around the globe play games constantly in many different genres, with many different interesting plots, graphics and addictive game play. If you have a closer look however you will be able to find the underlying benefits jumping out at you though.
The most obvious of the advantages is hand eye coordination. You just need to look at how you have to use game controllers when playing many of the games these days. It is not even remotely as simple as using a mouse to navigate around. The controllers require that you use many different combinations of keys to do what you need to in a game.
They feed the imagination. Of course, you can find some people claiming that while using television, videos, and gaming systems, people's imaginations are not engaged because an entire virtual environment is supplied for them. They say that video games hurt the imagination because games supply the mind with complete imagery instead of encouraging the mind to fill in the details of the environment for you. I really disagree with that view. Instead, I find that the imagery in the games actually fuels the imagination and drives it to consider new possibilities that might not have arisen otherwise.
If you play video games you will improve your strategic thinking. One major advantage you will gain from playing games these days is an improvement in your strategic thinking, which can be applied to many real-life situations. In many games you need to think a few steps ahead to get really good at the game, this will help you to work this into your every day life.
If you play games you will certainly learn to persevere and be patient. With the really great games you will only be able to finish them by spending many hours on them. There are also many of them that may take you weeks or even months.
