Although, Microsoft has very fierce and established competitors namely, Google and Apple - they do know how to play this game irrespective of the size of the competition.
They achieved it recently in the gaming system marketplace with their XBox, although Sony and Nintendo were ruling this area.
They have the money, funds reserves and some very good professionals to do this in the mobile software platform arena. The new Windows Phone platform will create and open up many new opportunities for developers and mobile app creators in the next 2 to 3 months.
