Technology has developed an amazing rate over the past twenty years. Technology has taken hold of everyday life in a big way and it is intertwined with everything we do on a daily basis. One of these markets that has seen astronomical growth is the gaming industry. There has been huge growth in sales of gaming consoles and especially new gaming titles. These new titles rake in similar revenues to some of the Hollywood blockbusters even.
An interesting and often overlooked feature of playing games is that it can actually help you to improve your management skills. It is often assumed that it is just a mindless waste of time, but this is far from the truth. Playing many of the games these days require players to concentrate constantly and manage their given resources and have an organised approach to the game.
Video games are often based on another persons reality and it is nice to try and step into someone else's shoes every now and again. One of the clearest examples are the football manager games. You have to consider many different parts of your club you are managing to guide them to success. It is just one of the simulations out there, but there are many others where you need to build cities, roller coasters or command a group of soldiers. Even though it is fun to take on these roles in a gaming environment most people don't go over to doing it in real life. This however doesn't mean that they don't get the benefits from it.
The video game is seen as a method of escapism into a world which is totally different to everyday life. This raises the question whether anything learnt from a video game can be applied in a persons 'real' job. The possibility in the mind of the person/gamer is two worlds which are separate entities which will not allow transferable skills, one being fantasy and the other a reality.
Regardless of where you work you would always have to complete tasks or projects. For the company to grow and prosper, these should be complete as quickly and efficiently as possible. If you don't do it, then the company suffers or close their doors eventually. In video games things work exactly the same. You constantly have targets, gaols, missions and other things you aim for. If you succeed you will be able to progress in the game, exactly as in real life.
