Many of us are worried about internet security and would want to be assured that our data along with any financial transaction we conduct on the internet is free of any security threat. It may become quite annoying and frustrating when any malware or virus enters our computer and causes havoc with it.
However, it is also a well known fact that individuals carry certain myths about internet security too and this article is an attempt to bust a number of them so that individuals are more careful and take necessary steps to guard our computers from getting attacked.
The first one deals with the impression that it's only teens and several unemployed youth with large amount of time on their hands that indulge in hacking or placing malware. The truth is the cyber crime is definitely an organized activity performed by experts who have a lot to gain financially. They take advantage of any valuable private information to transact on that consumer's behalf and defraud him.
The next deals with the antivirus program. While a good antivirus program pays to, we have to keep in mind that cyber criminals will always be one step ahead and can find ways to find loopholes in different program. It is thus essential to look beyond antivirus programs and also have some more security measures like a backup if the program become ineffective.
The third one has to do with the rather outdated theory that provided that we keep free from dangerous sites and so are careful about not opening attachments on email without checking properly, we should be safe. This has stopped being valid as many website pages are nicely camouflaged and also experts cannot write out pages that have malware hidden included. You thus need a good antivirus program along with anti-spyware and a strong firewall to ensure that one's body is safe.
The last one relates to taking no action till we realize that there are something which has gone wrong and depending on the system to inform us. This too is fraught with danger as once we act, it may be too late. The prudent thing to do is to regularly perform a check on the health of the system. You can do this through installing updates, making software upgrades and keeping away from dubious sites.
Along with the above, normal precautions for instance viewing or downloading unknown attachments, clearing temporary files regularly, following defragmentation and disk cleanup procedures will ensure how the system remains in good shape.
